Latest Research

Recent research has focused on patients with sickle cell anemia, particularly those with homozygous sickle cell disease (HbSS) or sickle beta zero thalassemia. The study aimed to develop a polygenic risk score for persistent albuminuria, a condition indicating kidney issues. This could help identify individuals at higher risk of kidney problems related to sickle cell anemia.

By developing tools to predict kidney issues, researchers can improve management and care for those affected. This work contributes to ongoing efforts to address health challenges faced by individuals with sickle cell disease, impacting multiple organ systems and quality of life (Zahr, 2025).
